The dust has finally settled after another
tremendous World Championship weekend in the Lone Star State. The Inside
Foos crew worked their tails off in recording all of the pro foos action
from what was definitely one of the most exciting worlds of recent years.
Tony Spredeman's dominating run through the Open Singles bracket and the
brilliant comeback effort of Adrian Zamora and Eddy Gartman in Open
Doubles, following the early round exit of five time champs Collignon and
Loffredo, were just two of the highlights from the world's most
prestigious table soccer event.
Las Vegas native Louis Cartwright also played sensational foosball in
reaching the finals in both singles and doubles, while the amazing Belgian
Collignon won his eleventh career world title, all in the last six years.
Cindy Head continued to raise the bar, winning her record 33rd and 34th
world titles, while two of the sport's truly nice people, Matt and Joy
Steward, experienced both the highs and lows of playing foosball at the
highest level. Joy won her first major title playing with Moya Tielens,
but fell short with husband Matt in the finals of Mixed Doubles, losing in
a heartbreaking five game match to champions Collignon and Head.
I would also like to thank everyone for their positive feedback and
intelligent suggestions, and we hope that what we do here at Inside Foos
makes your foosball life just a little bit more interesting. I feel that
our product has improved immensely over the past couple of years, and we
will continue to do all that we can to make our videos even better.
On a personal note, I'd like to thank my analysts Tom Yore, Scott King,
Mark (did he really say that?) Torres, and Brian (Blue Hair) Harrington
for their efforts in contributing to the 2003 production, along with the
hardest-working man in the business, Ezekiel "Iceman" Moore, for
handling the engineering duties. And of course my partner Christina Fuchs
(who also reached the finals in Women's Doubles) is simply irreplaceable.
I am still about 10 days from shipping out the first batch of worlds DVDs,
but after reviewing the footage I truly believe that this year's
production is the best thing that we have ever done. There are 25
different matches on the full 10 hour set,
featuring 29 different players, including the return to the pro tour of
four-time world champion Tommy Adkisson.
To order any of the 2003 World Championship DVD sets (6, 8, or 10 hour) go
to the homepage at http://www.insidefoos.com and use the PayPal option or
call 877-833-3603 for more information. You can also order the economical
2003 Full Season Package (Hall of Fame Classic, Texas States, Nationals,
and Worlds) by going to http://insidefoos.com/2003VideoPackages.php.
Thanks for all your support!

Clearing out the World Championship notebook...
18-year-old Tony Spredeman played extraordinary foosball throughout the
long Labor Day weekend, but his performance in Open Singles was one for
the ages...
Tony steamrolled everyone in his path as he won his first major title in
one of the most one-sided performances in World Championship history...
In his incredible run through the winner's bracket he beat, in order, Dave
Gummeson, Ahmed Gheyath, Mike Archer, Frederic Collignon, and Louis
Cartwright, while losing only two games...
He lost only three games total during the entire Open Singles
competition...
"Spree" also finished third in Open Doubles with Rick Macias and
fifth in Mixed Doubles playing with Becky Cherry...
Tony's unique style and focused aggressiveness will make him a tour
favorite for years to come...
North Carolina's Macias played in only two events this year but finished
first (with Terry Moore in Las Vegas) and third in Open Doubles with
Spredeman in Dallas...
Adrian Zamora and Eddy Gartman also played superbly in Texas, coming from
the loser's bracket to double-dip three-time finalists Trevor Park and
Louis Cartwright in the Open Doubles final...
"AZ" and Eddy won the first set in three games and won their
first doubles title in a brilliantly-played four game second set...
Ever since winning the singles title at the 2002 Hall of Fame Classic,
Adrian has been as consistent as any player on the pro tour with six top-3
finishes in his last five major tour appearances...
Adrian also finished 5th in Mixed Doubles and 7th in Open Singles at this
year's Dallas event...
Pasadena, Texas' Gartman has reached the top five in Open Doubles on
several occassions at the World Championships with a variety of partners,
but had never tasted victory until this year's remarkable performance...
Many observers felt that Belgian superstar Frederic Collignon had an
off-year at this year's worlds...
In Open Doubles, Loffredo and Collignon lost to Floridians Tom Yore and
Bob Diaz in the winner's bracket, and were stunningly eliminated by
California's Ron Sipiora and Don Swan...
Despite finishing only ninth in doubles and 3rd in Open Singles (after
winning doubles the past 5 years and singles the previous 2), Frederico
still won four titles at the 2003 worlds...
"Rico" came out on top in Mixed Doubles with Cindy Head for the
second straight year, won the International Cup title with Jamaal Allalou,
Two-Ball Rollerball with Loffredo, and the Pro/Pro Master DYP with
Canadian Gerry Meister...
Frederic now has 11 career world titles, second only among men to his
partner Todd Loffredo's seventeen...
Cindy Head's mixed victory was the 33rd world title of her amazing career,
and she added number 34 in the Women's Singles event, defeating defending
champ Moya Tielens...
Moya did, however, win the Women's Doubles title with Joy Steward,
overcoming the efforts of second place finishers Lotus Chesborough and
Christina Fuchs...
Remarkably, Cindy Head has won the Women's Singles title at the worlds in
fourteen of the last eighteen seasons...
TRIVIA TIME: Who did Todd Loffredo and Scott Wydman defeat for the World
Open Doubles title back in 1994?
The 2003 World Championships also featured the largest collection of Hall
of Famers to be assembled in one place in more than 15 years...
Mike Bowers, Steve Murray, Steve Simon, Lori
Schranz, Gary Pfeil, Bob Furr, Dave Courington, Link Pendley, and Johnny
Lott were all in attendance at this year's event...
Las Vegas, Nevada's Louis Cartwright had one of his best tournaments ever,
finishing second in both Open Singles and Open Doubles...
In Doubles however, this year's loss made three times in the past four
year's that Lou and his partner Trevor Park couldn't get over the hump...
They lost in the finals in both 2000 and 2001 to champions Collignon and
Loffredo
TRIVIA ANSWER: Loffredo and Wydman defeated John Smith and 2003 champion
Eddy Gartman in the final to win the first of two straight world titles
together...

Awards...
